Companies and Markets' recent study, North American Next Generation Wireless Networks Market, has revealed that 4G technology is set to govern the next generation wireless networks market in the U.S. The survey forecasts that the number of 4G technology users in 2015 would exceed the 2010 U.S. population figure, with the point of presence (POPs) crossing the mark of 300,000,000. The introduction of 4G technology has opened ways for various advanced multimedia services, telephony and gaming, which were earlier limited to fixed line networks owing to the requirement of huge amount of data. It has been found that many U.S. networks are incorrectly projecting their LTE and WiMax capabilities as 4G technologies, though these do not fulfill the data rate requirement criteria set for 4G technology classification. Though the 4G technology emphasizes on high speed data delivery, but the similar bandwidth of 3G and 4G technologies make it unlikely for the users to switch from their 3G services for speed improvements so easily.

4G technology will lead the next generation wireless networks in the US. This has been reported in a recent survey by Companies and Markets, which is estimating 4G technology adoptions to exceed the 2010 U.S. population figures by 2015.
The survey on 4G technology which was titled "North American Next Generation Wireless Networks Market" states that the network will have more than 300,000,000 points of presence (POPs) by 2015. The mobile operators in the US have been wrongly promoting their LTE or WiMax technologies as 4G since their networks are not capable of giving 4G technology speeds or data rate.
When the 4G technology is officially launched, a gamut of applications that were earlier restricted to fixed line networks will be able to switch to this technology. Most of the operators will prefer to use 3G over 4G technologies since the network coverage remains an issue with 4G. The widespread switch to 4G technology among mobile users will be hindered by very less change in speed. 3G is gaining importance with the booming smartphone market as it gives good data speeds without compromising on the network coverage.

4G technology stand for 4th generation and refers to the latest technology that provides mobile voice and data. When our phones were simple, speed was less of an issue because the packets of information that needed to travel through the network were smaller. Now that our phones are becoming mobile Internet devices, the amount of data needed to travel is much larger and without an upgraded network, like the latest 4G technology, it takes time to download apps, music, videos or upload pictures, videos or other large files to our home or at office. 4G technology providers like Spint (WiMax), T-Mobile (HSPA+), AT&T (HSPA+ and future LTE rollout) and Verizon (LTE)-are rolling out their 4G technology networks with Verizon being the only one to roll out true 4G technology.
